THE WEIGHT OF

ABOUT THE WORK

The weight of film is the first of what will become a series of works that explore the act of listening as performance, and starting point for musical improvisation.

A hydrophone recording of a malfunctioning Broadband box captured on the pavement of a Brighton street is the source inspiration for the composition and film. The repeated pulsing sound is blasted over and captured underneath the water in my bathroom. The film was shot in one take and the musical composition is an improvised response to the sounds re - amplified and captured within the tiled walls.

The manipulation of field recordings upon capture began an entirely new direction for performance and composition. Several of the elements of the video have originated as sources of manipulated field recordings, which are amplified within the new environment of the bathroom.

Improvising within the staged environment of the bathroom the amplified field recordings are the starting point for my performance using instruments and voice.
